Team Liquid are the fourth and final team to qualify for the PGL Season 1 finals, defeating Luminosity 3-2 in a gruelling four map series (19-21 on de_overpass, 16-9 on de_cbble, 16-8 on de_cache, and 16-7 on de_mirage, with Luminosity possessing a one map advantage). The $85,000 PGL Season finals will feature four teams and take place in Bucharest, Romania from October 2-4. Three European teams have already qualified via the two European qualifiers and a Last Chance tournament: Virtus.pro, fnatic, and TSM. With an additional $21,000 on the line throughout the online group stages, the winners of tonight's US group final stood to gain $4,000 as well as the final qualification spot to Romania. And the grand final saw the Brazilians of Luminosity facing off against Team Liquid, the latter team having clawed its way back from the lower bracket over Method and CLG.
Despite Luminosity grinding out the first map of de_overpass in an overtime thriller with a score of 21-19, as well as possessing an automatic one map advantage in the best-of-five, Team Liquid began to slowly eke out rounds over the course of the next three maps. With the recent addition of Spencer "Hiko" Martin a certain boost to the team's cohesion, Liquid managed to snatch three maps in a row from the increasingly dispirited major quarter-finalists of Luminosity: 16-9 on de_cbble, 16-8 on de_cache, and finally 16-7 on de_mirage. Liquid's ever dependable anchor/fragger Jacob "FugLy" Medina shone in the series in particular. As a result, Team Liquid will be joining Virtus.pro, fnatic, and TSM in the offline finals in Bucharest in approximately three weeks time. PGL Season 1Best of 5
